City concept rendering of an air-supported tennis dome in Mission Recreation Park.

Let’s build the dome together

Keep tennis in play all year. Help bring a community-owned, nonprofit indoor tennis dome to Kelowna, built for players, families and future generations.

Concept rendering of a proposed dome, not the current site.

Built by the community.
Run for the community.
Benefits the community.

Idea: a locally governed nonprofit that owns and operates the indoor facility, reinvesting revenue into courts, programs and access, not distributing profit to private owners.

Where things stand The City of Kelowna has ended its agreement with Tennis Clubs of Canada and is seeking a new delivery partner for the five-court Mission Recreation Park project.

  • Community ownership

A nonprofit board accountable to members and the broader community.

  • Year-round play

Indoor courts make winter leagues, lessons and casual play possible.

  • Maximize Recreational Benefit; not Profits

Programs for youth, adults, new players and competitive athletes. Our mission is to provide an accessible facility at a reasonable cost for players.

  • Reinvestment into the Mission

Membership and court revenue will sustain the facility over time and drive profits. Profits will be reinvested into the facility, programs and community vs being sent to private shareholders.

Kelowna’s courts deserve a future that lasts.

The City’s Mission Recreation Park concept included five courts under an air-supported dome, with free public access to the outdoor courts in summer. A nonprofit-led approach creates a clear local ownership model. Similar successful facilities exist in Kamloops and Salmon Arm and other cities in Canada.

The path forward to Success

  1. Step 1

    Pre-Sale Memberships

We need commitments from enough players to help raise the capital to pay for the dome. We will also be launching a donation and sponsorship campaign. Time is of the essence as the City RFP is coming out soon.

  2. Step 2

The City is Committed; Is our Community?

After many years of discussions with the city and various pitches by different groups, the City is now very committed to indoor tennis. They have presented a very attractive opportunity. The land is committed, the site is being prepped. Now is the best chance to form a community owned indoor facility.

  3. Step 3

Strong Financial and Operational Plan and Experience

We have a very strong financial and operational plan. Our team has the experience to build and run this facility for long term success.
